Coco Ma has served as Senior Director of Content Acquisition & Production at SOHU Video since 2008, and she heads up the SVOD company’s content businesses.
In her current role, Coco is responsible for producing and acquiring domestic and international TV programming, movies, variety shows, animations and more for distribution on SOHU’s web, IPTV and digital TV platforms. She also manages the company’s international sales effort, spearheads its investment in original television content and feature film co-productions, and is overseeing the R&D and production of a new SOHU Video home theater project that’s currently in the works.
Coco Ma joined SOHU in 2005 as an Editor for the SOHU Music Channel, and then shifted in 2006 into a role focused on feature film business development and artist management in the entertainment sector., she was in charge of the film cooperation BD and artist agent for entertainment business. She is the senior director of Content Acquisition & Production at SOHU Video since 2008, leading the main domestic and overseas content businesses.
SOHU has been instrumental in the development of China’s SVOD market. In 2009, the company introduced the first free-to-view online service offering Hollywood movies in China, and the next year it won the exclusive license to roll out popular primetime series such as Lost and Gossip Girl to its viewers in the region. In animation, SOHU brought Japanese anime hits such as Fairy Tail and One Piece into China, and earlier this year signed a deal with Nickelodeon to add the channel’s popular American and European cartoons to its growing portfolio.
